Keep your account secure

Keeping your details up to date helps ensure your account remains secure and fully operational.
From time to time, we may ask you to confirm or update your personal details. This is to keep your account safe and help us meet our obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.
 
Confirming your details helps us protect your account by:

  • enabling us to verify activity and provide important updates
  • reducing the risk of fraud or unauthorised access
  • ensuring your account information remains accurate.

Important: You may still need to re-verify your details even if nothing has changed as we need to confirm your information is correct and up to date. If you don’t complete the request, we may place transaction restrictions on your account until it’s done.

What you need to provide

We’ll let you know exactly what’s needed during the verification process. You may be asked to confirm information such as:


  • full name
  • date of birth
  • residential address
  • contact details
  • other personal or account-related information like your occupation and your source of wealth.


You may also need to provide details from a government issued ID, such as:


  • driver licence
  • passport
  • Medicare card.

For most members, this is the quickest way.

  • Follow the prompts in the app.
  • Complete any extra steps if asked.
  • Most people finish in a few minutes.

Use the Verification of Details form

Use this form if you have been asked to if you have been asked to verify personal details, and if:    

  • you prefer not to use the CFS app, or

  • you’re verifying your own details in your role as a representative for a member, or

  • you’re verifying a member’s details on their behalf, in your capacity as a Power of Attorney.   

What happens if you don’t complete the verification  

If you don’t confirm required details with us by the due date provided to you, we may place transaction restrictions on your account. This means:


  • you may not be able to receive or make certain payments on your account,
  • some transactions may not be processed,
  • payment requests (including direct debits) may be declined.


These restrictions stay in place until all required details are verified.

Frequently asked questions

We must keep your information up to date and re-verify it from time to time. This helps us protect your account, ensures we can contact you if needed, and meet our obligations under the Anti-Money laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006. All financial institutions operating within Australia are required to collect and maintain this information.

We'll be contacting members in stages over time. If you haven't received a request yet, there's no need to do anything right now. If you hold a joint account, you and the other account holder may receive a verification request at different times.

If you use the CFS Mobile App, it usually only takes a few minutes. Only in special circumstances or when using the form it may take longer, due to processing times.

Contact us before you respond to the request. We can confirm if the request is legitimate.

 

What we may ask for during the verification process:

  • Confirmation of your name, date of birth, address and contact details. 
  • Occupation and source of wealth (such as salary, assets or other)
  • Details from a government issued ID document


What we never ask for:

  • We will never ask you to share your CFS account details or your bank details.
  • When asking you for your source of wealth we never ask you for your account balance or any dollar amounts.

You will need to enter details from up to two forms of ID such as:

  • Australian driver license
  • Medicare Card
  • Australian passport
  • Australian Visa (foreign passport)
  • Centrelink card
