The Baillie Gifford Long Term Global Growth Fund invests in the highest quality stocks from around the globe, including some of the world’s best-known brands and future high-growth companies from across a diverse range of market sectors.
Taking an expressly long-term approach to investing, the team seeks out and invests in exceptional companies that have the potential to grow to many times their current size. Baillie Gifford’s rigorous process of fundamental analysis and proprietary research are core to a successful, long-term, bottom-up investment approach. This allows the business to exploit global opportunities over periods of, typically, five years or more.

Mark is the head of the Long Term Global Growth Team, a strategy which he co-founded in 2003. Mark
joined Baillie Gifford in 1996, initially working as an Investment Analyst and Manager in the US, UK
and Japanese Equities teams. He became a Partner in 2004. Mark graduated BA in Philosophy, Politics
and Economics from the University of Oxford in 1992 and spent a year at Harvard as a Kennedy Scholar in 1993 before completing a PhD in Politics with a thesis on Nationalism in the EU at the University of Edinburgh in 1996.
Michael has been with Baillie Gifford for nine years. He has a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University
of Cambridge in 2007 and an MLitt (2009) and PhD (2013) in Iranian Studies from the University of St
Andrews. He has a particularly keen interest in climate change and related technologies. He has driven
much of the work around LTGG’s climate ambitions and related engagement.
Tom is Head of the US Equities Team and a member of the Long Term Global Growth strategy. He
joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and became a Partner of the firm in 2012. After serving as Deputy
Manager for five years, Tom was appointed Joint Manager of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust in
2015. During his time at Baillie Gifford he has also worked in the Developed Asia and UK Equity teams.
Tom’s investment interest is focused on high growth companies both in listed equity markets and as
an investor in private companies. He graduated BSc in Computer Science with Mathematics from the
University of Edinburgh in 2000.
John is an Investment Manager and member of the Long Term Global Growth (LTGG) and China A-share Teams. He has been a Partner in the firm since 2016. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and after a year in the North American department joined the Japanese team. From 2007 onwards, he managed the Shin Nippon Investment Trust and in 2011 moved to the Global Discovery team. He joined the LTGG team in 2015. John spent two years in Shanghai as Chairman of Baillie Gifford's China office
before returning to Edinburgh in January 2022. John graduated MA in Ancient & Modern History from
the University of Oxford in 2000.
Robert has been with Baillie Gifford for six years. He was the recipient of the Mellon Fellowship to Yale
in 2016, where he graduated MA, prior to which he graduated BA (Hons) in Philosophy from the
University of Cambridge in 2015. Like Gemma, he brings a different perspective on the way in which
future generations will interface with technology. His perspectives have informed our views on the
future of gaming, the metaverse, blockchain based technologies and payments.
Gemma has been with Baillie Gifford for five years. She has a BA (Hons) in History and a BA double
major in History and Philosophy from Rhodes University in South Africa, along with an MA in Modern
History from Durham. Having grown up in South Africa she brings a helpful and different slant in
relation to evolving societal attitudes. Gemma has for example, challenged our perceptions around
the future of food and farming and the extent to which alternative proteins might enter the
mainstream over the next decade.
